Resources

Okay book arts, letterpress, and papermaking enthusiasts…you’ve emailed me and I’ll be listing all kinds of resources and links, especially in Southern California. Check out the LINKS on the sidebar of this site. This list is not exhaustive and primarily serves as a beginning step to plunge wider and deeper.

BOOK ARTS

I’m working on links, but here are some Southern California classes open to all ages:

• I am offering book arts classes at Irvine Fine Arts Center and the International Printing Museum.

Don’t miss visiting the Cerritos Public Library which as a fabulous book arts collection as well as many other collections listed in LINKS.

Mills College
Besides the educational institutions listed in my links, just found about Mills College’s MFA in Creative Writing & Book Art, the first of its kind. They are now taking applications for Fall ‘09. Email grad-admission@mills.edu. Mills College is located in Oakland, CA (though not in Southern Cal, at least there is now one MFA Book Arts program on the West Coast!)

LETTERPRESS
Go first to www.briarpress.org. It has most everything you need to start your letterpress journey. Click on the Workshops category for national listings of classes.

Lala Press in Los Angeles offers letterpress instruction and press rental time. Check out their beautiful work on their site.
Otis Lab Press in Los Angeles
Gerald Lange’s class at Otis
• Letterpress classes at the Armory Center for the Arts
The International Printing Museum is offering classes, see listing on my Classes page

Places to visit: Besides the above, don’t miss visiting Scripps College Press in Claremont, CA.
